Abstract. One of the understudied issues of gadget use by schoolchildren is the specific usage patterns of students of different ages. We conducted an expert survey of teachers working with students of various grades. A total of 36 experts were interviewed. The experts were asked to provide their opinions grouped by school age (grades 2-4 – primary school students, grades 5-6 – primary secondary school students, grades 7-8 – secondary school students, grades 9-11 – high school students) – four opinions for each age group. Examples of judgments presented to the experts: «A primary school students often doesn't realize that artificial intelligence is currently active», «A younger teenager can exist in two worlds simultaneously: playing and communicating online, while simultaneously interacting with communication partners offline», «An older teenager uses gadgets as an opportunity to test themselves in socially and psychologically risky situations», and «A high school student perceives gadgets as part of their own existence.» For each item, the experts were asked to select the answer options «Yes, I agree» or «No, I don't agree». The experts also had the opportunity to comment on their answers. For all items, the percentage of «Agree» responses significantly exceeded the percentage of «Disagree» responses. (The «Agree» responses ranged from 67% to 91% for various criteria, with agreement rates below 70% recorded for only three of the 24 judgments.) This pilot study prompts the formulation of several research objectives: comparing the opinions of various expert groups of educators and comparing the assessments of expert educators and assessments of gadget use by schoolchildren of different ages.
