Yury Zinchenko is a renowned and recognized specialist in the field of methodological problems of psychological science and security psychology both in Russia and abroad. He successfully developed the application of L. S. Vygotsky's cultural-historical approach in fundamental psychological research from the standpoint of V. S. Stepin's post-nonclassical methodology, and successfully applied the activity approach in branch psychological studies, including the problematics of security psychology and counter-terrorism.
Together with academic V. A. Sadovnichy he was the first in psychological field to propose and apply supercomputers for processing big data sets and formalizing models of complex functional states of a person in extreme situations; for the first time in Russia, he introduced virtual reality technologies (CAVE format) in psychological research; developed widely used scientific and methodological recommendations for preventing the involvement of young people in extremist and terrorist activities, developed unique hardware and software systems; developed an original dynamic model of psychological safety of the individual and society; works on ethical problems in conducting psychological research and psychological practice.
